Dog Types
Although not accepted by the English Kennel Club until 1902, the Welsh Springer Spaniel has been used in Wales as a working gundog for several hundred years and is considered a very ancient and distinct breed of pure origin. A faithful and persistent worker, the Welsh falls between the English and Cocker Spaniels in size, standing 46—48 cm (18—19 in) high and being slightly lighter in build than the English. Weight is usually 16-20 kg (35-45 lb). Built for endurance and hard work, the breed is a quick and active mover, displaying plenty of push and drive. The well set-on tail should never be carried above the level of the back and is customarily docked. Strong, merry and very active, the Welsh Springer has a kindly disposition. The dense coat is straight or flat, and silky in texture. Its color is a rich red and white only. |
