Dog Types
A native of Canada, the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever did not arrive in Britain until 1988, since when this kind, confident and intelligent breed has made steady progress. The breed jumps and plays, using the tail to lure waterfowl within range of the gun. Then the Toller retrieves the fowl and, if in water, the dog is assisted by strongly webbed feet. A medium sized breed standing 45-51 cm (18-20 in) high and weighing about 17-23 kg (37-51 lb), this is a compact, powerful and well-muscled dog which is easy to train. The medium sized, almond shaped eyes, brown to amber in coloring, have an alert expression. The straight, repellent, double coat is not difficult to groom and comes in all shades of red or orange, with lighter feathering under the tail. There are sometimes white marks on the tail-tip, feet, chest and possibly a blaze on the head. |
