Dog Types
Although the large Munsterlander s ancestors are just as old as those of other German Gundogs, this is a relatively young pointing and retrieving breed. History tells us that the 23 black and white dogs entered at the first show organized by Munster's breed club in 1921 are the ancestors of modern Large Munsterlanders. This multi-purpose Gundog is alert and energetic, with a strong, muscular body, ideal for the rough shooter. With an excellent nose and fine staying power, the Munsterlander works equally well on land and in water. This dog is a keen worker, easily taught. The long dense hair is not curly or coarse, lying short and smooth on the head. The head is solid black with a white blaze, snip or star allowed. The body is white or blue roan with black patches, flecked, ticked or a combination of these. Height is 58-65 cm (23-25.5 in) and weight 25-29 kg. |
