Dog Types
Originally from the Bresse area of France, the Italian Spinone is an old breed, established in Piedmont in Northern Italy. A popular all-purpose gundog, this is a hardy worker in the field, a hunt, point and retrieve breed, noted for good scenting abilities and a soft mouth. The Spinone works particularly well in marshland or rough woodland and is reputedly easy to train. Squarely built with strong bone, the Italian Spinone is intrepid and untiring, a hardy dog, which is able to adapt to any terrain, including water. The dog's temperament is faithful, intelligent, patient and affectionate, and this is expressed in a kind and earnest expression. The tough, thick, slightly wiry coat is 3.8-6 cm (1.5-2.5 in) long with longer, stiffer hair on the eyebrows. Colors range through white, orange and brown, often with peppering and speckling. Height is 59-70 cm (23-27.5 in) and weight 29-39 kg (62-82 lb). |
