Dog Types
Probably the most familiar of Irish dogs, the Irish Setter is generally thought to have descended from land spaniels used for taking game with the net. In the eighteenth century setters trained to find game for the gun became particularly popular in Ireland. Carefully planned breeding evolved the characteristic solid red color. Racy, balanced and full of quality, the Irish Setter looks a spectacular and handsome sight with rich chestnut coat of moderate length. The breed is tremendously active with untiring readiness to range and hunt under any conditions. Demonstrably affectionate, the Irish Setter loves fun and frolic and proper training ' is useful, plenty of exercise I being essential. No height K or weight clauses are given 5 in the English breed standard but in Ireland height is F 59-70 cm (23-27.5 in) and weight 29-39 kg (62-82 lb). |
