Dog Types
The Hungarian Vizsla is the national dog of Hungarian sportsmen, and a dog which has been identified as a Vizsla has been found in a fourteenth century Hungarian manuscript. The breed almost died out between the two world wars, but has survived thanks to a few dedicated supporters.
A breed of distinguished appearance with medium bone, the Hungarian Vizsla has graceful movement with a lively trot and a ground-covering gallop. Robust and medium boned, the breed stands 53-64 cm (21-25 in) high and weighs 20-30 kg (48.5—66 lb). Lively, intelligent, obedient, sensitive, very affectionate and easily trained, this dog was bred to hunt fur and feather, pointing and retrieving both from land and water. The striking, russet-gold coat is short, straight, dense, smooth and shiny, feeling greasy to the touch. Although small white spots on chest and feet are acceptable, they are undesirable. |
