Dog Types
Bred originally at Gordon Castle in Scotland, the Gordon Setter was the first officially recognized Scottish Gundog. The largest and heaviest of the setter family, the breed's ancestors include Bloodhound, Collie and other Setters, perhaps also including old Spaniel blood. This is both the heaviest and slowest of the setters but one which is built to work steadily all day. The British Gordon Setter Club was founded in 1927. This outgoing, stylish breed is of even disposition, an intelligent dog, able and dignified. Symmetrical in conformation, the Gordon Setter has particularly good galloping qualities and loves a country environment. The shining coat is coal black in color, without rusti-ness but with chestnut-red markings, its length and weight requiring time to dry. Height is 62—66 cm (24.5-26 in) and weight 25.5-29.5 kg (56-65 lb). |
