Dog Types
During the nineteenth century, a yellow Wavy-coated Retriever was mated to a Tweed Water Spaniel and from this union came four yellow puppies, acknowledged as the ancestors of all Golden Retrievers. It was Lord Tweed mouth who introduced Goldens as a definite breed, one which is used to retrieve game in the shooting field but is adaptable to many different roles including guide dog work, drug and explosive detection, tracking and obedience. The flat or wavy coat has good feathering with a dense, water-resisting undercoat, the color any shade of gold or cream but not red nor mahogany. An active, powerful breed, it stands some 51—61 cm (20-24 in) high and weighs from 27-36 kg (60-80 lb).The Golden Retriever is both biddable and intelligent, with natural working ability. This kind, friendly and confident dog is one of the most popular breeds in the world. |
