Dog Types
Based on the German Short-haired Pointer and a highly popular shooting dog in Germany, the German Wire-haired Pointer has evolved from what have been considered the best pointers, regardless of their type and size. Other breeds have been used to perfect the coat which is an important feature. The thick, outer coat is no longer than 3.8 cm (1.5 in) and there is a dense undercoat. Although the coat should not hide the body shape it should be sufficiently long to give good protection, this being a dog which excels in both field and water. Standing 62-66 cm (24.5-26 in) and weighing 25.5—29.5 kg (56—65 lb), the German Wire-haired Pointer is a stylish dog with galloping lines; intelligent, able and dignified. Temperament is bold and outgoing, a breed of kindly, even disposition which is an all-round shooting dog. |
