Dog Types
Thought to have originated in Spain in the fourteenth century, the Cocker is one of the oldest spaniel breeds. Used for hunting woodcock, quail and partridge, spaniels of this kind went by various names including 'Cocker' or 'Cocking Spaniel'. Accepted by the English Kennel Club in 1892, the Cocker Spaniel Club was formed in 1902. The popular Cocker Spaniel has a gentle, affectionate tern perament and yet is full of life and exuberance. Sturdy and compact, the breed has a merry nature with an ever-wagging tail. The full eyes express intelligence and gentleness but are wide awake, and the long, low-set ears are described as 'lobular'. Movement is typically bustling, especially when following scent and this dog has no fear of heavy cover. The flat, silky coat comes in various colors; the height is 38—41 cm (15-16 in) and the weight 12.75-14.5 kg (28-32 lb). |
