Dog Types
In the USA, the Cocker Spaniel developed along different lines from the breed we know as the English Cocker, the former being slightly smaller and having a shorter back and different head shape with a longer coat. Because of the increasing difference between them, the two breeds were divided in the 1940s. The breed standard describes this breed as 'a serviceable-looking dog' with a refined, chiseled head and strong, well boned legs, overall compact and sturdy. Although, according to the breed standard the silky coat should not be excessive and not hide body lines nor impede movement, those appearing in today's show ring do have a great deal of coat which needs regular attention. Various colors are carefully detailed in the standard and the ideal height ranges from 33.75-38.75 cm (13.5-15.5 in). Weight is usually 11-15 kg (24-28 lb). |
